Situation peaceful, heinous crimes under control: SSP B’la

Baramulla: 19 Jan:  Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla Amod Ashok Nagpure on Friday said that the prevailing security situation in the district is peaceful, heinous crimes are under control and significant decline is being witnessed in the cases of law and order disturbance.
Talking to Rising Kashmir, SSP Baramulla Nagpure said that maintenance of law and order and elimination of drugs, terror, and fear from society is a priority of police.
About curb on terrorism in district, SSP Baramulla Nagpure said that police are vigil and observing the situation closely. Last year, different cases were registered on terror modules, and local as well as foreign terrorists were killed in encounters.
“Last year, 48 terror associates were arrested, 03 terrorists were arrested alive, and efforts are on to arrest or neutralize the remaining terrorists,” he said. 
Informing about the war against drugs, he said police have intensified the actions against drug peddlers and so far 15 cases have been registered and 29 drug peddlers were booked this year.
“Last year, 264 cases were registered, 464 persons were arrested – 389 under NDPS and 75 under PSA, property worth 03 crores of 07 drug peddlers were attached, drugs of 16 crores were seized, Bung cultivation on 67 Kanals and 10 marlas and drugs of 34 crores were destroyed, and 61 awareness campaigns were conducted by PDDC Baramulla,” SSP Nagpure, who recently completed one year in office, said.
Regarding the crime against women, SSP Nagpure said that it is our top priority and Baramulla police has a zero-tolerance policy towards crime against women. Numerous cases were registered in different police stations, and most of them were related to domestic violence and marital disputes, he said.
Talking about police-public relations, he said that the public has a strong bond with the police. Thana Divas, Police Community Partnership Group (PCPG) meetings, he said, are being frequently observed every week in all police stations. “Different social media platforms are being used to reach the public, especially youth. Any action or initiative taken by the police is communicated to the public through social media platforms.”
Asked about underage and rash driving, SSP said such practices will invite police action including imposition of fine and cancellation of licence. “Drivers are requested to follow safety regulations. These regulations are implemented for the safety of people. Action will be taken against those parents who provide vehicles to underage youths.”
Informing about the upcoming Republic Day celebration, SSP said that police patrolling and checking have been intensified across all police stations.
“Preventive actions are being taken against people who are involved in unlawful activities. Police are ready and confident that people will celebrate peacefully and in an enthusiastic environment.”
 
 
 
2 drug peddlers arrested in B’la, Kulgam
Police have arrested two drug peddlers in Baramulla and Kulgam and recovered psychotropic/contraband substances from their possession.     
In a statement issued police said it established a checkpoint at Gantamulla Colony, intercepted a person identified as Gowhar Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Mohd Bhat resident of Pehliharan.
During search, 72 capsules of SpasmoProxyvon Plus were recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to PS Sheeri where he remains in custody.
Meanwhile in Kulgam, a Police party of Police Station DH Pora at a checkpoint established at Margibal Gojjarpora, intercepted a motorcyclist identified as Sayar Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Salam Mir resident of Waripora. During search, officers were able to recover 2.5 Kgs of Poppy Straw concealed in a nylon bag from his possession. He has been arrested and the motorcycle bearing registration No. JK03D-8782 used in commission of crime has also been seized.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigations have been initiated.
