Says comprehensive rehab policy ready

Anantnag, May 09: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday said that prolonged silence against drugs has caused serious damage to the younger generation and that many youths have been deprived of their future due to addiction.

Addressing a large gathering at Shaheed Humayun Muzammil Degree College ground in Anantnag, the LG said, "Silence in society often leads to greater harm. In many situations, silence is not peace but becomes the reason for injustice. That is why I have come to Anantnag to speak openly with you."

The Lieutenant Governor said the anti-drug campaign launched from Jammu has now turned into a mass movement across Jammu and Kashmir. "Twenty-nine days ago, from Jammu stadium, a movement began to break this silence. Today, it is becoming a mass awakening where citizens are coming forward collectively. Human life is precious, and drugs are taking lives in front of our eyes," he said.

Sinha said the issue was earlier treated only as a law and order challenge, but a broader approach was adopted in 2020 under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said the 100-day campaign was only the beginning of a sustained effort. "The goal was to build a mass movement where schools, colleges, families, sports grounds, villages, and every section of society join in and remain silent no more," he said.

Appealing to society, LG Sinha said families must help those affected by addiction. "If any family member or neighbour is falling into addiction, we must bring them back with love and care. The administration will stand with you fully," he said, calling upon teachers, religious leaders, sports persons, and civil society to play an active role in awareness against drugs.

"This is not just the responsibility of the administration or police. This is a collective fight," he added.

The LG said a comprehensive rehabilitation policy has been prepared for drug-affected youth. "The aim is to treat, counsel, and rehabilitate them with dignity," he said.
