Baramulla, Dec 01: The Baramulla Police announced on Friday that its ongoing efforts to combat drug peddling have resulted in a substantial reduction in registered cases, indicating a decline in drug-related activities over recent months.
A police official in Baramulla revealed that as of November 2023, a total of 260 cases have been filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. These efforts have led to the apprehension of 452 individuals involved in drug peddling.
Among the arrested individuals, 70 hard-core drug peddlers have been booked under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS PSA). The police have seized properties belonging to these individuals, valued at crores, with the overall contraband confiscated during this period exceeding 14 crores.
The police official highlighted the committed actions of the Baramulla Police, which have resulted in a tangible reduction in drug peddling cases. There is a visible decline in instances of drug abuse across the entire police district of Baramulla.
As of November 2023, assets in seven cases have been frozen, comprising three houses, three vehicles, and a substantial cash amount totalling up to 1.2 crores. Freezing these assets is part of the police’s comprehensive strategy to curb illegal activities and dismantle the financial infrastructure supporting criminal enterprises.
The police official said that the general public in the district has shown unwavering faith and satisfaction in the police’s decisive measures against drug-related activities, expressing complete support. The Baramulla Police reaffirms its dedication to confronting drug smugglers and ensuring the seizure of both movable and immovable properties associated with illicit trafficking within the district, he said.
