Srinagar, Apr 14: Siachen Warriors celebrated the 39th Siachen Day on 13 April 2023, with traditional solemnity and reverence. The event was held at the Siachen War Memorial, Base Camp, where the Commander of the Siachen Brigade laid a wreath on behalf of the GOC, Fire and Fury Corps, paying rich tribute to the War Heroes who secured the highest and coldest battlefield in the world.
The Siachen Glacier is considered the most challenging battlefield due to extreme weather conditions and terrain, with sub-zero temperatures and avalanche risks posing the greatest challenges for survival. Since the launch of Operation Meghdoot in 1984, more than 11,000 troops have made supreme sacrifices in the line of duty while guarding the key passes and ridges along the Glacier.
The Siachen Warriors remain ever committed to guarding the “Frozen Frontiers” and are ready to overcome all odds. The event concluded with the felicitation of Veterans, Veer Naris, and Civil Defence Employees who made supreme sacrifices on the Siachen Glacier.
The Indian Army holds the crucial battleground in a high state of operational preparedness with a resolute deployment of highly motivated troops and equipment. The Siachen Glacier extends for approximately 76 Kilometres in the Karakoram ranges, sharing boundaries with Pakistan and China. The nation shall always remain indebted to these brave hearts.
