‘Action aims to dismantle cross-border narco-terror financing ecosystem’

Srinagar, May 06: In a significant action against narco-terror networks operating in Jammu and Kashmir, the State Investigation Agency (SIA) Kashmir on Wednesday attached immovable property belonging to a Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK)-based operative of the proscribed terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), who is involved in a major narco-terror case being investigated by the agency.

The action pertains to Case FIR No. 03/2023 of Police Station ANTF, initially registered by the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) and subsequently transferred to SIA Kashmir for specialised investigation in view of the larger terror financing and cross-border narco-terror ramifications, the investigation agency said in a statement issued here.

Investigations conducted by SIA Kashmir revealed that accused Zameer Ahmad Lone, son of Ahmad Gul Lone, resident of Mandiyan Keran, Kupwara, presently operating from PoJK and affiliated with the banned terrorist organisation LeT, was actively engaged in narco-terror activities aimed at destabilising peace and security in the Union Territory. The accused had earlier been declared a proclaimed offender by the competent court for evading arrest and continuing anti-national activities from across the border.

Pursuant to a detailed application filed by SIA Kashmir before the competent court, the court, after examining the material placed on record, passed orders for the attachment of the property belonging to the absconding accused. In compliance with court orders, SIA Kashmir attached immovable property measuring one Kanal and 14.37 Marlas falling under Khasra No. 113 situated at Mandiyan Keran, Kupwara.

The attachment proceedings were executed by a specialised SIA team in the presence of the Executive Magistrate and local revenue officials, strictly in accordance with prescribed legal procedure.

Earlier, SIA Kashmir had also filed a comprehensive charge sheet before the competent court in the case after uncovering substantial evidence relating to narco-smuggling, terror financing, and cross-border terror links.

"The action underscores the firm resolve of SIA Kashmir to dismantle the entire ecosystem of terrorism, including terror financing and narco-terror networks operating from across the border," the SIA said, adding that it remains committed to identifying, investigating, and taking stringent legal action against individuals and entities involved in activities prejudicial to the sovereignty, integrity, and security of the nation.

"In line with the broader national mission of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, the Jammu and Kashmir UT continues to intensify its efforts to combat drug abuse and dismantle narcotics networks that fuel terrorism," the investigation agency said. "SIA Kashmir, in coordination with other law enforcement and civil agencies, remains committed not only to the investigation of narco-terror cases but also to supporting preventive and awareness initiatives aimed at building a drug-free society."
