Katra, Apr 17: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sports Complex, Katraon Monday organised a one day UT Level Chess Championship which culminated with a participation of around 45 players across the UT from all the categories. The championship was organised by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sports Complex in collaboration with All J&K Chess Association.
Winners who were announced in the main section included Soham Kamotra who secured 1st position whereas Sumit Grover secured 2nd position and Atul Kumar Gupta secured 3rd position with cash reward of 10K, 5K and 3K respectively.
In the Sub-Junior category, Amandeep Singh secured 1st position, Aarav Gupta secured 2nd position and Aanand Swaroop secured 3rd position with cash reward of 5K, 3K and 2K respectively. Ms. Alankrita Sharma was declared as best woman of the championship who was awarded with a cash award of 5K.
Anshul Garg, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has congratulated all the winners for their excellent performance. He said that the championship was organized to get the attention of youngsters towards the game of Chess and make more and more youngsters take part in such events. He further added that Shrine Board under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor, JK-UT is committed to encourage the youth and provide them a platform to showcase their talents, as Sports Complex is being developed as a centre of excellence and impressed upon the sportspersons to take optimum benefit from the state-of-the-art equipment and other facilities made available at the Sports Complex.
It is pertinent to mention that the Shrine Board’s Sports Complex has been producing sportspersons of national and international standards in various sporting disciplines viz., Archery, Athletics, Judo, Shooting, Badminton etc. who have been showing promising results in varied competitions.
At the closing ceremony, Navneet Singh, Addl. Chief Executive Officer, SMVDSB distributed cash prizes among the winners. Also present on the occasion were Vipan Bhagat, Asstt. Chief Executive Officer, Atul Gupta president JK Chess Association and other field officers and staff from Shrine Board for smooth conduct of championship.
