Ganderbal, Mar 21: The Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Gund and PHC Kullan in Ganderbal’s Gund area are facing a severe shortage of X-ray technicians. For the last few years, both hospitals have only had one technician available to run the X-ray machines, causing great inconvenience to patients.

According to sources, the lack of separate technicians has resulted in patients facing long wait times and overcrowding in the hospitals. The PHCs cater to a large population of locals, tourists, and other outpatients, including those who come for the annual Amarnath Yatra. However, despite the high demand, the hospitals have not received adequate staffing.

The locals have been demanding separate X-ray technicians for both PHCs for a long time, but their requests have been ignored. They are forced to seek X-ray services at private labs or in Srinagar or Ganderbal, which is inconvenient and costly.

The General Secretary of Civil Society Gund has appealed to the District Administration Ganderbal and the concerned Chief Medical Officer to provide round-the-clock X-ray and ECG services at Gund and Kullan hospitals. The locals have also called for the vacancies to be filled as soon as possible.

Responding to the concerns, the Chief Medical Officer of Ganderbal, Dr. Afroza, assured that the matter would be taken up with higher authorities in the health department. She stated that the department would work towards resolving all issues facing the medical sector in the region.
