Shopian, Feb 02: In a significant stride towards achieving the goals of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), Shopian district in South Kashmir anticipates complete saturation of the scheme by June this year.
The authorities of Jal Shakti department in Shopian revealed that approximately 92 % saturation has been achieved under JJM for providing tap connections.
The authorities said that they have undertaken 62 projects under JJM in Shopian which include 3 OTH tanks, 34 rapid sand filtration plants and other schemes for portable water.
The authorities informed that around 60% of the JJM works have been successfully completed in the district, marking substantial progress in ensuring access to clean drinking water for the local population.
The authorities added that a substantial sum of rupees 93,38,40,000 has been expended under JJM in Shopian, underscoring the commitment to providing pure drinking water to households.
They revealed that 14 vital portable water schemes have already been accomplished under the mission.
Executive Engineer Jal Shakti Department Shopian, Abdul Rashid, told Rising Kashmir that around 40,000 tap connections have been established across the district.
He said that some of these connections were fresh.
He added that some connections having low water flow were also rejuvenated under JJM by augmentation in their flow.
The Executive Engineer said that work is actively going on 41 additional schemes, which have already been approved.
The Executive Engineer said that they have set a deadline to achieve full saturation of JJM in Shopian by June of this year.
“All works under JJM will be completed by June,” he said.
