A man has been arrested by Baramulla Police for alleged voyeurism after a minor girl discovered a hidden mobile phone in a changing room of a readymade shop in Bandi Payeen, Chandoosa.
The victim, whose name has been withheld, filed a complaint at Police Station Chandoosa on April 26, 2023, accompanied by her sister.
A police official said that the victim reported that she had selected clothes at the shop owned by Aijaz Ahmad Sofi son of Ghulam Nabi Sofi, a resident of Bandi Payeen Chandoosa and had entered the changing room for a trial.
“Upon entering the room, she discovered a hidden mobile phone that was used to secretly record customers changing clothes,” the police official said.
Following the complaint, Baramulla Police registered a case under sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Information Technology Act, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
A team, led by SHO Police Station Chandoosa, Inspector Irfan Ahmad and supervised by SDPO Kreeri, Khalid Aahraf-JKPS, was constituted to investigate the matter.
“The accused, Aijaz Ahmad Sofi, was taken into custody immediately, and his mobile devices were seized during the investigation,” the police official further added.
“Further investigation is underway.”
The Baramulla police have appealed to the community members to be cautious when using trial rooms.
