Jammu, May 22: The Jammu and Kashmir unit of Shiv Sena (UBT) has welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to dismiss the review petitions filed regarding Article 370. The party has now demanded special privileges for the cultural identity of Jammu and Kashmir, along with reservations in jobs and education for locals under Article 371.
Addressing a press conference at the party’s office here, state chief Manish Sahni said that with the Supreme Court’s decision, Article 370 should now be considered a part of history. “Jammu and Kashmir, being a border state, has endured the impact of terrorism for the past three and a half decades, and its people deserve special privileges,” he said.
Sahni added, “Similar to the northeastern states of India, the people of Jammu and Kashmir should be granted protection of their cultural identity and be given priority in government jobs and admissions to educational institutions under Article 371.” He appealed to those advocating for the restoration of Article 370 to instead unite and raise their voices for the rights of the local people under Article 371.
The Shiv Sena leader also announced plans to initiate a padayatra (foot march) immediately after the results of the Lok Sabha elections. The objective of this march is to raise public awareness about these demands and to garner public support. Sahni emphasized the importance of collective effort in securing these rights for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
During the press conference, Vice President Balwant Singh, President of the Kamgar Wing Raj Singh, and Secretary Rakesh Handa were also present. They echoed Sahni’s sentiments and expressed their commitment to the cause.
