Jammu, Jan 21: The Shiv Sena (UBT) Jammu-Kashmir unit on Tuesday said the Omar Abdullah-led government has failed to address pressing public issues, following a recent cabinet meeting that “left many demands unaddressed”.
In a press conference held here at the party’s state central office, J&K president Manish Sahni expressed his disappointment, saying the cabinet meeting on January 20 failed to yield discussions or resolutions on critical matters.
He criticised the government for neglecting key promises related to the regularisation of daily wagers, implementation of minimum wage laws, and provisions for 200 units of free electricity. He further lamented that the long-standing demand for the restoration of statehood has been sidelined, placing it in “cold storage”.
“This government has not done anything substantial throughout its tenure,” Sahni said, adding that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s engagements appear limited to official visits to Delhi, while ministers have shown little initiative to resolve local issues.
The Shiv Sena called upon the government to fulfill its commitments, such as providing minimum daily wages to cooks, Asha workers, and other service providers in Anganwadi and government schools. Sahni demanded the regularisation of daily wage labourers across various departments, the provision of drinking water, an increase in old age and widow pensions and the allocation of 12 free LPG cylinders per household.
He called for a dedicated budget to promote tourism in the Jammu division, advocating for its development and the designation of Jammu as the permanent capital of the state. “The expectations of the public are turning into disappointment. It is time for the Omar government to act and restore faith in its promises,” he said.
