Jammu, July 18: Shiv Sena (UBT) has announced an all-party meeting in Jammu on July 20 to discuss the Ministry of Home Affairs’ amendments to the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, particularly increasing the powers of the Lieutenant Governor.
Supported by the All Party United Morcha, the meeting aims to address several critical issues, including the restoration of statehood, democratic rights, and the alarming rise in terrorist incidents in the Jammu division, Manish Sahni, state chief of Shiv Sena (UBT), said on Thursday.
He criticised the Central government for treating Jammu and Kashmir as a laboratory and emphasized the lack of a clear roadmap for the region’s future. “The unilateral increase in the Lieutenant Governor’s jurisdiction contradicts promises of restoring full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir,” he said in a statement.
Sahni said the agenda of the upcoming meeting will focus on strategising a unified response to these issues. He expressed optimism that representatives from various political, social, and non-political organisations, as well as intellectuals, will attend and contribute to shaping a “consensus-based strategy for the safe and prosperous future” of Jammu and Kashmir.
The participation of leaders such as Narendra Khajuria (IDP), Narendra Singh (Shiromani Akali Dal), Sunny Kant Chimb (HRS), Vikas Bakshi (General Secretary), and Sanjeev Kohli (Vice President) underscores the broad-based opposition to the recent developments and the unified effort to address them through dialogue and consensus-building, the statement said.
