Jammu, July 06: The Shiv Sena (UBT) Jammu & Kashmir unit chief, Manish Sahni on Saturday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of prioritising its own interests over the safety and well-being of the common people in Jammu.
Addressing a press conference here, Sahni criticised the BJP’s decision regarding the construction along the Delhi-Katra Expressway, alleging it poses significant risks to public safety.
He mentioned the decision not to erect a protective blind wall between Kunjwani and Narwal on pillars, saying it leaves the public vulnerable to accidents. “The influential BJP leaders intervened to cancel the wall’s construction, purportedly to safeguard their business interests and those of their associates, disregarding public safety concerns,” he said.
Highlighting past instances, the Sena leader mentioned the construction of blind walls along the Jammu-Kashmir National Highway, where objections from affected parties were allegedly overridden in favor of public safety. He also brought attention to the plight of approximately two dozen families residing in unsafe quarters in Warehouse and Nehru Market, declared hazardous by the JDA since 2012. “Despite over a decade passing, no alternative housing has been provided for these families, endangering their lives,” he said.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) leader expressed disappointment on behalf of Jammu’s residents, saying they had supported the BJP candidates in past assembly and Lok Sabha elections. “Despite this support, the BJP has consistently neglected the region’s issues, resulting in disillusionment among its voters,” he said.
