Jammu, Feb 19: Commissioner Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Sheetal Nanda on Sunday reaffirmed the government’s resolve of supporting and facilitating the destitute and downtrodden segments of society.
She said this while addressing a gathering during a relief distribution-cum-awareness camp at Mehr Chand Mahajan Park, Gandhi Nagar, organized by the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Jammu district in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department and Mahajan Sabha.
The Commissioner Secretary said the government has established a number of helpline numbers for senior citizens, women, people with special needs, children and others in distress to address their issues in a speedy manner.
She also distributed woollen blankets, medicines, other medical aids, school bags and other domestic items among the poor and needy. Various officers from Social Welfare Department and NGOs elaborately explained several welfare schemes of SWD and Red Cross Society tailored for the welfare of people in need.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Patron Mahajan Sabha, Jugal Mahajan, explained the activities of the organization and said that service to the poor and needy people has been the objective of the organization.
Mission Director, Mission Vatsalya and Mission Shakti, Harvinder Kour, Former IAS officer, K B Jandyal, District Social Welfare Officer Jammu, noted columnist, Ravi Rohmetra, social activists and people from all walks of life were present on the occasion.
