Srinagar, May 28: Shama Foundation (A Women Concern) Kashmir organized a spectacular book release function on Monday at Shahanshah Hotel Boulevard in Srinagar.
The event marked the release of a book titled “Opulent Memoirs,” authored by Dr. Shiekh Aejaz Aziz, the former head of the Department of Oncology at SKIMS. The book, published by Innovative Publication Pvt Ltd. of New Delhi, delves into the experiences of the renowned physician with cancer patients over a span of more than three decades.
The grand ceremony saw the esteemed presence of Retd. Justice Bashir Ahmad Kirmani, who released the book, along with Professor Parveez Ahmad Shah, former Principal of Government Medical College Srinagar, Professor Naqeeb Akhter, Former Professor of SKIMS, and other distinguished guests. The forward of the book was written by Retd. Justice Bashir Ahmad Kirmani.
The notable speakers, including Retd. Justice Bashir Ahmad Kirmani, Professor Naqeeb Akhter, Justice Nazir Fida, and Professor Parveez Ahmad Shah, applauded the remarkable contributions of Dr. Shiekh Aejaz Aziz in the field of medicine, particularly for his instrumental role in establishing the Pediatric Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation unit in Medical Oncology at SKIMS.
They also praised his pioneering efforts in initiating the DN (Medical Oncology) degree course at SKIMS, which was approved and certified by MCI, thereby facilitating the training of qualified Medical Oncologists in Jammu and Kashmir as well as the rest of India.
The speakers highlighted that Professor Dr. Aejaz Aziz has published over 250 papers in prestigious national and international journals, serving as a member of editorial boards and a referee for various Medical Oncology publications. They further mentioned that he has authored several books, including “Oncologic Memoirs” and other allied texts. Professor Dr. Aejaz Aziz holds life membership in esteemed organizations such as the American Society of Clinical Oncology, European Society of Medical Oncology, Indian Cancer Society, and Indian Society of Medical and Pediatric Oncology.
During the event, Retd. Justice Bashir Ahmad Kirmani emphasized the importance of raising general awareness about diseases like cancer and the role of society in assisting patients in coping with them. Justice Nazir Fida brought attention to the concerning fact that the use of pesticides for treating apple trees in the Shopian area has led to an alarming increase in cancer cases. Professor Naqeeb Akhter praised the efforts of Shama Foundation in providing assistance to the underprivileged and treating women affected by cancer, thereby alleviating the suffering of the womenfolk.
The book release function organized by Shama Foundation proved to be a momentous occasion, shedding light on the experiences of Dr. Shiekh Aejaz Aziz and inspiring a collective effort towards combating cancer and supporting those affected by it.
