Srinagar, Aug 22: As many as seven persons were killed and 22 injured after a school bus carrying lost control and fell in a 200-metre deep gorge near Durbuk, Ladakh on Thursday, officials said.
The School bus of Lamdon School, Leh, was en route to a marriage function when the tragedy struck.
The accident occurred around 11:30 am when the bus was heading from Leh to Durbuk.
According to officials, the vehicle lost control and veered off the road before tumbling down into the gorge. Rescue operations were immediately launched by Civil Administration, Police, and Army after the incident.
District Magistrate Leh, Santosh Sukhadeva, confirmed the casualities. “Seven persons have died, and 22 others are injured,” he told Rising Kashmir.
The injured were airlifted to Leh, with the assistance of chopper services provided by the Army and District Hospital in Leh, to ensure urgent medical care.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, and local authorities are conducting a thorough probe to determine the circumstances leading to this tragic incident.
