Handwara, Sep 26: The Department of Horticulture Planning and Marketing on Friday organised a Seva Parv programme at Fruit Mandi Handwara to mark the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with a focus on horticulture, agriculture and allied sectors. The event brought together growers, officials, and multiple government departments to share schemes and initiatives aimed at boosting farmer incomes and strengthening the Valley’s horticulture economy. Area Marketing Officer Horticulture, Ali Mohd Shah, addressed the gathering and highlighted the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), PMFME, and other centrally sponsored schemes. He said the initiative includes 29 projects, with one dedicated to agriculture marketing. He explained that the department is promoting fruit grading and improved market access for growers. He added that grading line facilities worth Rs 5 lakh to Rs 5 crore and rural business service hubs with a 50 percent subsidy under the HADP program, along with JKPIC and CIB support ranging from 3 lakh to 8 lakh rupees with a 50 percent subsidy, will help farmers enhance the quality of their produce and secure better returns. The event saw active participation from the Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry, Agriculture, and Horticulture departments. Officials from these departments shared details of schemes and urged growers to adopt them to improve productivity, sustainability, and income. They stressed the importance of using government support to strengthen the farm and horticulture sector. A large number of fruit growers attended the program and welcomed the government’s outreach. Many said such events provide valuable information and guidance to connect with schemes and market opportunities. President of Fruit Mandi Handwara, Mohammad Amin Wani, also spoke at the event. He urged growers to work with dedication to keep the horticulture sector vibrant and competitive. He thanked the Horticulture Planning and Marketing Department for organising the programme and said such initiatives strengthen the link between farmers and government institutions.
