Srinagar, Oct 04: As part of its ongoing efforts to promote skill development and capacity building in the Sericulture sector, the Department of Sericulture, Jammu and Kashmir, under the leadership of Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, Director Sericulture J&K, flagged off an exposure tour of 40 farmers Saturday. As per a statement issued here, the initiative forms part of a broader programme designed to equip Silkworm Rearers, Farmers, Youth, and Tribal communities from across the Union Territory with knowledge of innovative practices, modern technologies, and scientific advancements being implemented in Sericulture across various States and Union Territories of the country. These exposure visits aim to familiarise participants with both pre-cocoon and post-cocoon technologies, providing them with hands-on experience and technical insights to enhance production and ensure a disease-free, high-quality cocoon yield in J&K. Speaking on the occasion, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat emphasised the significance of such initiatives in empowering the farming community. “These tours provide our farmers and rearers with valuable opportunities to interact with experts, observe advanced practices, and bring that knowledge back home to strengthen the Sericulture sector,” he said. He reiterated the Department’s commitment to empowering rural communities and youth through capacity-building programmes, thereby promoting sustainable livelihoods and contributing to the socio-economic upliftment of the sector. The series of exposure tours will encompass a diverse group of participants—farmers, rearers, youth, and members of tribal communities—ensuring inclusive growth and wider outreach of Sericulture development across Jammu and Kashmir.   Participants expressed great enthusiasm for the initiative, noting that the exposure will help them adopt modern scientific techniques, improve productivity, and boost income generation through Sericulture-based enterprises.
