Anantnag, Dec 29: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office, on Friday organized a sensitization program for Sarpanches and Panchayat Secretaries from 9 blocks of Anantnag district in its 2nd Phase. The event took place at the Meeting Hall of PWD Bungalow.
The program, conducted by Standard Promotion Officer (SPO) Ashish Kumar Dwivedi and BIS Resource Person Mehak Rasool, aimed to educate and raise awareness among Panchayat representatives about the significance of ISI-marked products.
Ashish Dwivedi provided an overview of BIS’s role and the purpose of the sensitization program. He emphasized the importance of opting for ISI-marked products for the betterment of the community. Dwivedi highlighted that BIS issues licenses to factories adopting its standards, ensuring the production of quality products. He encouraged the use of ISI-marked products for the country’s overall growth.
The SPO discussed the hallmarking of gold, explaining how to verify the authenticity of hallmarked gold. The BIS Care App was also introduced and demonstrated, urging participants to download it from the Google Play Store.
Mehak Rasool elaborated on BIS activities, emphasizing that the ISI Mark scheme assures consumers of product quality, safety, and reliability. She explained the processes of Standard Formulation, Product Certification, Hallmarking, System Certification, Compulsory Registration Scheme, and Testing & Calibration Services. Rasool stressed the importance of raising awareness about standardization at the Panchayat level, encouraging Panchayat Secretaries and Sarpanches to choose ISI-marked products in tenders floated by the rural development department.
The BIS team reiterated the need to reach out to people at the Panchayat level and make them aware of standardization processes. Panchayat Secretaries and PRI members were briefed on framing specifications for GeM and incorporating ISI marked products in tenders for works floated by the rural development department.
