Budgam, Sep 01: Haji Ghulam Ahmed Khan, a senior worker from the National Conference (NC) in the Beerwah Assembly constituency, has officially joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He will be contesting the upcoming assembly elections as the PDP candidate for the Beerwah constituency.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, Khan said, “I have joined the Peoples Democratic Party in the presence of Mehbooba Mufti after leaving the National Conference. I am going to contest the assembly elections from the Beerwah constituency as a PDP candidate.”
Khan said his aim is to work for the welfare of the people. “I have been associated with politics for a very long time. I want to resolve public issues and develop every sector of the Beerwah constituency, so people can benefit from these development projects,” he said.
Khan had been associated with the NC for a long period but decided to leave after not receiving the party’s mandate to contest the assembly elections from Beerwah.
The NC has nominated Dr Mohammad Shafi as its candidate for the Beerwah constituency. Dr Shafi, who won the 2008 assembly elections from Beerwah on a PDP ticket, lost in the 2014 elections against Omar Abdullah.
