Srinagar, July 20: The three-day UT Level Senior Chess Championship, organized by the All J&K Chess Association under the Aegis of J&K Sports Council, concluded successfully at Srinagar Sports Club. The event witnessed fierce competition among 30 selected players from across the Union Territory, with promising talent showcased throughout the tournament.
On the closing ceremony, Mohammad Iqbal, Manager SKISC, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He distributed cash prizes and trophies to the outstanding winners of the championship, lauding their dedication and skills displayed on the chessboard.
The top performers in the tournament were recognized for their exceptional play and sportsmanship. Soham Kamotra emerged as the champion securing the 1st position, bagging a cash prize of Rs. 8000.00. Following closely, Sumit Grower secured the 2nd position, earning a cash prize of Rs. 5000.00, while Mayank Kulkarni took the 3rd position with a cash prize of Rs. 4000.00. Asim Billah claimed the 4th position, receiving a cash prize of Rs. 3000.00, and Mohammad Aayan Khan and Aryan secured the 5th and 6th positions respectively, each winning cash prizes of Rs. 2000.00 and Rs. 1000.00.
The outstanding performances of the top four players have earned them the opportunity to represent Jammu and Kashmir in the prestigious 60th Senior National Chess Championship– 2023, scheduled to be held in Maharashtra from 16th to 26th August 2023. This national event will provide a platform for the selected players to compete against the best chess talents from across the country.
