Semis lineup drawn in 68th National School Games U-17 Boys Football

West Bengal to take on Meghalaya; Bihar to face Jharkhand in semifinals

Jammu, Dec 03: After a tough contest in the last sixteen stage, young footballers of the formidable teams of West Bengal, Meghalaya, Bihar and Jharkhand showed stellar grit, character, discipline and promise and made it to the semifinals of the ongoing 68th National School Games U-17 Boys Football Championship, being organised by the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports J&K, under the auspices of School Games Federation of India (SGFI) at Sainik School Nagrota near here.
Now, in the first semifinal, Jharkhand will take on Bihar, while in the second semifinal, West Bengal will lock horns with Meghalaya tomorrow.
In the Quarterfinals, Bihar got the better of Delhi by a solitary goal (1-0), Jharkhand prevailed over Punjab by one goal to nil (1-0), Meghalaya trounced Assam by three goals to nil (3-0) and West Bengal defeated Kerala by three goals to one (3-1).
Earlier, in the Pre-Quater Finals, Jharkhand beat Chandigarh in a close contest via Penalty Shootouts by six goals to five (6-5), Punjab got the better of Arunachal Pardesh by two goals to one (2-1), Bihar blanked Karnataka by eight goals to nil (8-0), Delhi drubbed Uttrakhand by four goals to one (4-1) in Penalty Shootouts, Assam defeated Rajasthan by six goals to nil (6-0), Meghalaya trounced Madhya Pradesh by three goals to nil (3-0),
Kerala scripts solitary goal win against Haryana (1-0) and West Bengal defeated Maharashtra by three goals to nil (3-0).
A total of 87 matches will be played in this soccer extravaganza, out of which 84 matches have already been played, wherein around 760 footballers and officials took part.
Meanwhile, as part of the historic series of the 68th National School Games in four sports disciplines, the mega soccer event is being held under the patronage of Minister for Sports, Sh Satish Sharma; Secretary Youth Services and Sports, Sh Sarmad Hafeez and under the chairmanship of Director General Youth Services and Sports, Sh Rajinder Singh Tara.
In this month-long series of 68th National School Games three events of Judo, Fencing and Wushu have already been completed and the fourth one that’s Football
U-17 Boys & Girls is in progress. Over 4000 athletes and officials have participated in these games.
