Jammu, Dec 21: District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Mission Shakti, Social Welfare Department Jammu in collaboration with Career Counselling and Placement Cell of GGM Science College on Wednesday organized an awareness seminar on “Women-centric schemes and services of the government for women empowerment and upliftment”.
The awareness seminar was held under the patronage of the College Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar Gupta to familiarize the students and the faculty members with various welfare schemes of the Central government, particularly for women.
Shagun Manchanda, (District Mission Coordinator) deliberated on various schemes and services run by the government departments. Gender specialist, Khusboo Kapthe stressed the need to promote gender sensitivity to encourage equality among genders. She highlighted the women-centric schemes like scholarship schemes, SMAS (State Marriage Assistance Scheme for poor and needy girls), and pension schemes for old age, widow, and physically disabled women.
Khusboo explained schemes like Ladli Beti and Sukanya Yojana for providing financial security to the girls. Emergency helpline numbers for women (181), children (1098), elder line (14567) drug de-addiction (14446) were also shared.
Nearly 70 students participated in the program. It was an interactive session where the students got satisfied with their queries related to various schemes.
Faculty members of the CCPC Committee – Dr. Devinder Kumar Sharma, Convener CCPC, Prof. Shrdha Anand, Prof. Sunita Kumari, Prof Asha Sharmhal and Prof Pinky Chandwal coordinated and attended the event which was anchored by Rahil Bhat, student of 5th Semester, GGM Science College.
