Srinagar, June 09: Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, the General Officer Commanding (GoC) of Srinagar-based Army’s 15 Corps on Sunday said that comprehensive measures have been undertaken to maintain stability in Kashmir’s security landscape ahead of the impending Assembly polls scheduled for September this year.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a felicitation ceremony for Kargil War veterans at Baramulla’s General Bipin Rawat Stadium, Lt. Gen. Ghai emphasised the stable security situation in Kashmir, affirming that all necessary precautions have been implemented to uphold this stability.
In response to queries regarding recent statements by Director General of Police (DGP) RR Swain indicating the presence of 70 to 80 foreign terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, Lt. Gen. Ghai corroborated the accuracy of these figures. He commended the effective strategies employed by security agencies in managing these foreign elements, highlighting their evident dedication to counterterrorism efforts.
Addressing the situation along the Line of Control (LoC), Lt. Gen. Ghai declared it to be stable, providing reassurance regarding border security. He also lauded a recent successful anti-terror operation in South Kashmir, where a prominent Lashkar-e-Toiba commander was neutralized, underscoring the significance of each such operation as a step forward in progress.
Earlier, Lt. Gen. Ghai had honored Kargil War veterans at the ceremony, emphasizing the pivotal role played by the Himalayan regiment of the army during the conflict.
In conjunction with the “Kargil Rajat Jayanti Mahotsav,” the Chinar Warriors organized a felicitation ceremony to honor the bravery of soldiers who participated in Operation VIJAY. As part of this commemoration, a symbolic bike rally, flagged off by the Chinar Corps Commander at General Bipin Rawat Stadium, embarked on a journey from Chandigarh to Kargil, traversing significant locales along the way.
Reflecting on this milestone, an army spokesman underscored the pride of the Himalayan Brigade in its illustrious history, including the valor exhibited during Operation VIJAY. Families and next of kin of fallen heroes were also felicitated during the ceremony, commemorating their gallantry against formidable odds.
Furthermore, an exhibition showcasing equipment and weaponry, organized by the Baramulla Rashtriya Rifles as part of the ‘Know Your Army’ Mela, celebrated the spirit of the Indian Army. The spokesman noted that such events not only illuminate the virtues of the armed forces but also inspire faith and reverence among the local populace, reaffirming the Indian Army’s pivotal role as a guardian of protection and pride, fostering unity and hope across the nation.
