Srinagar, July 19: In response to a recent surge in terror attacks resulting in injuries to seven individuals in three separate incidents in southern Kashmir, security measures have been intensified to avert any untoward incidents in the future.
A senior officer from the Police Department informed Rising Kashmir that security has been bolstered in four districts of south Kashmir, with security agencies maintaining strict vigilance to thwart any further attacks.
“With the ongoing Amarnath Yatra and the current security situation, additional forces from the Police and paramilitary units have been deployed at crucial locations along highways and major junctions,” the officer stated.
He further emphasized that all Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) and security agencies have been put on high alert in the wake of the recent attacks. Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) have been implemented meticulously to ensure a flawless security response.
The officer stated, “Both police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have intensified patrolling, vehicle checks, and frisking at various flashpoints in southern Kashmir and other parts of the Valley.”
Authorities are actively working on leads, and they are confident that the remaining attackers will be either apprehended or neutralized soon.
When questioned about the reasons behind the spurt in terror attacks in South Kashmir districts, the officer attributed it to the presence of active terrorists collaborating closely with Over-Ground Workers (OGWs). He assured that they are pursuing all leads to maintain peace in the region.
“To prevent any such incidents in the future, we are addressing and rectifying loopholes. Review meetings have been held following the attacks,” he added.
The recent security escalation comes after a series of terrorist attacks in the Valley.
On Tuesday, two non-local labourers were injured in a shooting incident in the Lal Chowk area of Anantnag district.
Earlier, on July 13, three non-local labourers were injured in a similar attack in the Gagran area of Shopian district.
On May 29, a circus employee from Udhampur lost his life in a terrorist attack near an Amusement Park in the Janglaat Mandi area of Anantnag.
