Anantnag, Apr 02: Authorities in Kokernag areas of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district conducted a crackdown on the sale of expired and substandard commodities on Tuesday, initiating a thorough inspection drive with police support.
An official said that under the supervision of the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kokernag, Suheel Ahmad Lone, the exclusive market checking was conducted in Kokernag, Sagam, and other neighbouring areas.
He said the objective of this drive was to safeguard the interests of the common people by ensuring the availability of quality products and curbing profiteering practices.
SDM Lone said that during the operation, a substantial quantity of expired edible items, ranging from milk to fruits, vegetables, junk food, and edible oil, was promptly identified and destroyed on the spot.
He said penalties were imposed on shopkeepers found to violate regulations. The administration is committed to upholding consumer rights and maintaining market integrity.
“Such stringent market inspections would continue in the coming days,” he said, adding that the administration is committed to preserving public health and welfare.
