Jammu, Aug 22: In a big relief for cancer patients, the State Cancer Institute at Jammu has started advanced treatment with the PET scan and through Brachytherapy.
“With the start of PET Scan and treatment of cancer patients through Brachytherapy at State Cancer Institute, the patients would get better treatment at State Cancer Institute,” Principal, GMC-Jammu, Dr Ashutosh, told Rising Kashmir.
The Jammu region has got its first PET Scan Machine and treatment of the cancer patients through Brachytherapy for the first time, the Principal, who is also Head of the Oncology Department, said.
It is a defining and a landmark day in the history of health care delivery in the Jammu region for cancer patients, he said.
Following the start of PET scan services, the much awaited Brachytherapy services have also been started at State Cancer Institute.
The Radiation oncology team headed by Prof. Ashutosh Gupta, Principal GMC Jammu, who is a well-known Cancer Specialist, performed the first Brachytherapy on Thursday.
State Cancer Institute is a very prestigious project funded by Government of India at a cost of Rs 104 Crores.
Dr. Ashutosh said Brachytherapy treatment is totally free of cost under Ayushman Bharat Scheme.
It is apt to mention here that State Cancer Institute, GMC Jammu has made significant progress recently.
The services to cancer patients include Cancer Chemotherapy, PET Scan, Brachytherapy, all high end diagnostic services like digital radiography, High end ultrasound with colour doppler, transvaginal ultrasound, Preventive oncology services. Etc.
Very soon, the much sought after High energy linear Accelerator will also be made functional at State Cancer Institute, Jammu, for which the installation work is going on, the Principal said.
