A government school teacher in Pattan area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla has been suspended for allegedly biting off a colleague’s ear earlier this week, an official said.

According to an official statement under No:-CEO/Bla/IMW/F-824-44366-70, the accused teacher, Imtiyaz Ahmad Wani, Teacher-Grade IInd at MS Shah Mohalla Buchoo, has been placed under suspension with immediate effect.

The suspension was based on recommendations from the Zonal Education Officer Pattan.

“On the basis of recommendations by the Zonal Education Officer Pattan under above reference, pending enquiry into the conduct of Mr. Imtiyaz Ahmad Wani, Teacher Grade IInd at MS Shah Mohalla Bachoo, Zone Pattan is hereby placed under suspension, with immediate effect, in terms of Rule 31 of J&K CSR-1956,” the official order said.

During the suspension period, Wani would remain attached to the office of the Chief Education Officer in Baramulla.

Chief Education Officer (CEO), Baramulla Chaman Lal Sharma, confirmed the development and said that there is no place for such teachers in the education field, and the department will be very strict against those who break laws.

The incident occurred in Pattan’s Buchoo area when a scuffle between two teachers resulted in one of them allegedly biting off his colleague’s ear.

On Feb 23, the teacher was arrested by J&K Police for allegedly biting off a colleague’s ear during a scuffle at Government Middle School Buchoo in my the education zone Pattan.

According to officials, the dispute between the two teachers arose over the assignment of some official duties. The argument escalated into a physical altercation, during which one of the teachers bit off the ear of his colleague.

The education department had also formed a committee to investigate the matter and make recommendations for departmental action.
