Poonch, Dec 18: Under the aegis of Jamaat Ahl-e-Sunnat, Jammu Province, a series of “Ummah Awareness” (Bedari-e-Ummat) conferences is being continuously organised across Poonch district with the aim of addressing growing social challenges and promoting moral and social reform.
The awareness programmes were held at various locations including Poonch, Surankote, Mendhar and Mandi, drawing large participation from across the district. Renowned  scholars, senior ulema, muftis, mosque imams, along with political and social personalities, local elders, youth and members of the public attended the gatherings in significant numbers.
During the conferences, speakers deliberated on key issues such as the responsibilities of the Muslim Ummah in building a righteous society, preparedness and collective duties during natural calamities and adverse national situations, the importance of Bait-ul-Maal, the growing prevalence of un-Islamic customs in marriage ceremonies and ways to curb them, as well as the alarming rise of drug addiction among youth and its possible solutions. The speakers also highlighted the need to eliminate other social evils through collective and organised efforts.
Addressing the gatherings, the speakers announced that special teams would be formed at the grassroots level to work village by village for social reform. These teams will identify and report social malpractices and take corrective measures in coordination with community leaders. They reiterated their commitment to take all possible steps to protect youth from the menace of drugs and to practically curb non-Islamic practices in wedding ceremonies.
