Baramulla, May 17: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday said it arrested a Sarpanch and recovered 21 grams of contraband Brown Sugar-like substances from his possession in the Lari Boniyar area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
A police official said that a police party under the supervision of SDPO Uri Shokat Ali, who was assisted by DySP Probation Kubra Nazir SHO Police Station Boniyar, arrested a Sarpanch and recovered a contraband substance from his possession.
He identified the accused as Mohammad Amin Banday, son of Anayat Ullah Banday, a resident of Lari Boniyar.
“During the naka checking at Bela Boniyar, the accused who was coming towards Boniyar, upon seeing the naka party tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully,” the official said, adding that during the search, 21 grams of contraband Brown Sugar-like substance was recovered from the accused Sarpanch.
He was immediately taken into custody and further investigation is going on, the police official said, adding that a case under NDPS Act has been registered in Police Station Boniyar and investigations have been started.
Earlier, on March 15, police arrested a local Sarpanch, Farooq Ahmad Malik from Singhpora Pattan and seized narcotics from his possession.
