Jammu, Apr 09: G M Saroori, the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) candidate for the Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seat, on Tuesday criticised the Congress and National Conference (NC) for allegedly splitting secular votes to benefit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Addressing a public meeting in Bunjwan, Saroori accused them of directing their attacks towards DPAP Chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad and his party instead of focusing on the BJP and its candidate. He expressed disappointment with the “divisive tactics” employed by the Congress and NC, stressing the importance of unity among secular forces to effectively counter the BJP’s divisive agenda.
“Why don’t they criticise the BJP and its candidate? Their sole focus seems to be on attacking Ghulam Nabi Azad,” he stated. Saroori also pledged to fight for the restoration of statehood and the protection of land and job rights for the people of the region. Recognising the significance of statehood, Saroori vowed to tirelessly advocate for the reinstatement of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, ensuring that the voices of the people are heard and respected in the corridors of power.
The DPAP leader promised to be a staunch advocate for the protection of land and job rights, which are vital for the socio-economic development of the region. He criticised regional parties for misleading the people with false issues and praised Ghulam Nabi Azad as the only leader in Parliament who passionately fought for Article 370 and statehood. He pledged to uphold Azad’s legacy and continue fighting for the people with the same fervour.
Saroori emphasised the need to transcend voting along religious lines and prioritize progress, peace, and development. In the face of ongoing hardships, he stressed the importance of uplifting all members of society, regardless of religion or caste, for the collective welfare of society.
“This is a time for unity and uplifting our people, not religious politics. We have suffered enough,” he said. DDC Member Amina Choudhary also attended the meeting.
