Terms Outsourcing Policy a ‘Den of Corruption’ Questions CM’s ‘Ignorance’ over absence of polling agents

Srinagar, May 11: J&K Peoples Conference President Sajad Lone on Monday accused the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and People's Democratic Party of orchestrating a “fixed match” during the Rajya Sabha elections that allegedly helped the BJP secure a seat in Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing a press conference, Lone questioned the absence of a polling agent during the Rajya Sabha voting process, claiming the move allowed MLAs to cast votes without oversight.

“The agent's job is that the member shows the vote to him and then casts it. It was revealed in an RTI that they did not keep an agent. This means that all three members cast their votes according to their own will, because there was no one to check,” Lone said.

Referring to an RTI disclosure, he alleged that the failure to appoint a polling agent was deliberate and accused the ruling establishment of attempting to conceal the matter.

Lone also criticised Chief Minister Omar Abdullah over his remarks on the issue and questioned how the government remained unaware of the development until the RTI surfaced.

He further claimed that the Assembly numbers were sufficient for non-BJP parties to secure both Rajya Sabha seats if votes had been distributed properly.

“The point is simple and clear: two parties that were shouting the loudest that ‘everyone is BJP’ have together gifted the Rajya Sabha seat to the BJP. They didn't keep an agent, and these people didn't raise a hue and cry,” Lone said.

The Peoples Conference chief also raised concerns over outsourcing of government jobs in Jammu and Kashmir, alleging that nearly 22,000 to 24,000 posts had been outsourced, involving expenditure of around ₹1,000 crore annually.

Describing outsourcing as “harmful for society,” Lone said the system was weakening job security and affecting opportunities for youth. He alleged that private agencies were underpaying workers despite receiving higher payments from the government.

He particularly criticised outsourcing under the Mission Vatsalya scheme, saying sensitive child welfare responsibilities should not be handed to poorly paid contractual employees.

Lone also accused both NC and PDP of political hypocrisy on issues related to liquor and governance, alleging that parties adopt different positions depending on whether they are in power or opposition.

Concluding the press conference, he urged people to remain vigilant against what he described as “political deception” in Jammu and Kashmir.
