Srinagar, Oct 31: The Department of Physical Education and Sports of Government Degree College Soibugh Monday conducted a run for unity under the banner of “Azadi ka Amrit Mahautsov.”
As per the officials, the race was held from Soibugh to Budgam, at a stretch of almost 7 kms and was flagged off by the Assistant Professor Dr Anyees ul Islam.
In the run, Faizan Ahmad of first semester finished first while Ubaid of BG first semester finished second and Imtiyaz Ahmad of BG first semester finished third, respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Assistant Professor English, GDC Soibugh Dr Anyees ul Islam said, taking part in sports is important for youth as it reduces stress and enhances their mood.
“Sports builds healthy bones and muscles, increases fitness, improves sleep, helps them socialize. It also improves their cooperation skills, boosts self-confidence, and lowers the risk of getting obese,” he said.
A closing ceremony was held in the college grounds and participants were appreciated on the occasion.
Youth Services & Sports-Sgr observes National Unity Day, DC Srinagar attends event, flags-off ‘Unity Run’
Srinagar, Oct 31: Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) was celebrated on October 31st 2022 by the Youth Services & Sports Srinagar with great zeal and fervor. The nation commemorates Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on 31st October, who was the first home minister and deputy prime minister of India and is also known as the Iron Man of India. He was instrumental in uniting the country post-independence of India. District Youth Services & Sports Srinagar in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra Srinagar organized “Unity Pledge Ceremony” & “Run for Unity”, which saw enthusiastic participation from the students and staff members. District Development Commissioner Srinagar flagged off the run here at Youth Hostel Srinagar early in the morning. Before the run was flagged off, all the participants took the pledge to uphold unity and integrity of the nation.
The event was conducted under the supervision of District Youth Services & Sports officer Srinagar Balbir Singh. District Coordinator NYK Srinagar, senior officers & Officials from YSS department also attended the event. About 460 participants took part in the Pledge ceremony and an equal number later joined the Unity Run. Pertinent to mention that the department of Youth Services & Sports has been conducting Unity Runs throughout the UT from 27th October in order to raise awareness on National Unity and contributions made by the Iron Man of India.
