Srinagar, July 06: The Jammu and Kashmir Police and civil administration implemented meticulous security arrangements to ensure the peaceful conduct of the processions. IGP Kashmir Zone, V.K. Birdi, personally oversaw the security operations in Srinagar and other parts of the Valley.“Comprehensive arrangements were made by J&K Police in coordination with the district administration and traffic department to ensure that mourners faced no inconvenience,” IGP Birdi said. “A particular emphasis was laid on regulating traffic to facilitate both the movement of processions and the general public.”Given the large number of mourners traveling from districts outside Srinagar, the police had extended traffic management plans beyond the city. “All units worked in sync to ensure seamless movement and maintain discipline on the roads,” he added.Despite the large crowds, the Ashura observances were peaceful, with mourners cooperating with the authorities and maintaining discipline. IGP Birdi praised the public for their cooperation, acknowledging that the successful and peaceful culmination of the processions was a collective effort by the police, administration, and the people of Kashmir.“The peaceful conduct of Ashura reflects the Valley’s shared commitment to communal harmony and respect for religious observance,” he said, reaffirming the authorities’ commitment to facilitating such religious events in a safe and dignified manner.
