Srinagar Mar 22: Real Kashmir Football Club (RKFC) is gearing up to face table-toppers Mohammedan SC on Saturday (March 23) at TRC Ground Srinagar.
Mohammedan Sporting Club currently holds the top position on the points table with 47 points, comprising 14 wins, five draws, and one loss.
RKFC currently occupies the 3rd position in the standings with 36 points from 20 matches, boasting 10 wins, six draws, and four defeats. Among the 12 clubs participating in the I-League 2023-2024, RKFC stands out as the only team to have defeated Mohammedan SC, and that too on its home ground in Kolkata.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference on Friday, RKFC head coach Ishfaq Ahmad says that playing against Mohammedan SC will be a tough game.
“We also defeated Mohammedan Sporting Club earlier, and that too on its home ground,” Ishfaq said.
In reply to a question about Mohammedan SC coach’s assertion that they would seek revenge against RKFC on its home ground, Ishfaq said, “We will play our football. It will be our home advantage. Mohammedan SC has a quality side, and we have to play extremely well to defeat them. If they want to take revenge, good luck to them.”
The RKFC head coach, however, said the last game against Delhi FC was disappointing for them. “We dominated the game, but it ended in a draw. Their goalkeeper made several saves. But I am still proud of my boys for the way they played football so far,” he added.
RKFC player Shivam Pednekar said it was good to be a part of RKFC this season. “We are confident for Saturday’s game. We have a plan and will stick to it to get good results,” he added.
Mohammedan SC coach Andre Chernyshov said they expect a good game on Saturday. “RKFC has a good team. We lost only against them this season. We want to take revenge tomorrow on their home ground,” he added.
Mohammedan SC player Mohammad Irshad also briefed the media.
