Srinagar, July 03: Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) and former minister Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen on Wednesday expressed serious concern over the increasing number of devastating fire incidents across the Kashmir Valley. He called for the swift rehabilitation of fire victims in Old Bus Stand Anantnag and Eidgah Srinagar, where property worth several crores has been reduced to ashes.
In a statement issued here, Hakeem said there is an urgent need for a vigorous and sustained awareness campaign to educate the public on preventing fire incidents during the current dry spell. He stressed the importance of round-the-clock vigilance and preparedness by the fire and emergency departments, particularly in congested areas.
The PDF Chairman urged the government to expedite the rehabilitation process for the fire victims of Anantnag and Eidgah, who have suffered total losses of their properties, including both housing and commercial establishments. He recommended the installation of fire safety plugs in densely populated areas to provide quick fire extinguishing assistance in case of emergencies.
The former minister expressed heartfelt sympathies and solidarity with the fire victims and appealed to NGOs and philanthropists to step forward and assist in their rehabilitation.
