Srinagar, May 11: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has fulfilled a long-pending demand of the people of Beerwah and Gulmarg constituencies by providing Ring Road connectivity to the Gulmarg National Highway on the Narbal side, bringing relief to commuters and raising hopes for tourism growth in central and north Kashmir.

Locals have welcomed the development, saying the new connectivity will significantly reduce travel time to Jammu once the Ring Road becomes fully operational across the Kashmir Valley.

Javid Ahmad, a Sumo driver from the area, said the people of Beerwah and Gulmarg are pleased with the initiative taken by the NHAI.

“The road connectivity will provide major relief to commuters travelling to Jammu, as the Ring Road is expected to reduce travel time considerably once it becomes fully functional,” he said.

Ahmad added that the improved road network would also boost the tourism sector in Baramulla and Budgam districts.

“Tourists are likely to prefer travelling to Kashmir by road through the Ring Road, as it will be more economical compared to air travel,” he said.

Another local resident from Beerwah constituency, Amir Ahmad, said the connectivity between the Gulmarg road and the Ring Road would increase tourist inflow to prominent destinations such as Gulmarg, Tosamaidan and Doodhpathri.

“This road link is directly connected to these tourist spots and will help promote tourism in the region,” he said.

He further said that people in Beerwah and Gulmarg constituencies are satisfied that the NHAI addressed the demand within a short period.

“Residents are now eagerly waiting for the day when the Ring Road becomes fully operational for traffic movement,” he added.
