Kulgam, Aug 10: Civil Society Noorabad along with sumo drivers Association staged protest in Damhal Hanjipora in Kulgam on Saturday evening, expressing their anguish with the deteriorating road conditions in the area.
The protest was directed at the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), as the road from K.B Pora to Chimmer has remained in a dilapidated state for over a “year”, causing significant inconvenience to commuters.
Advocate Rouf Geelani told Rising Kashmir that the issue of the road which connects a large portion of the Noorabad belt, is riddled with potholes and causing massive inconvenience to daily commuters.
“The road has been in a deplorable condition for the past two years. Despite bringing the matter to the attention of the concerned department, no action has been taken,” Geelani said.
Tanveer Ahmad Allaie, President Sumo Stand D.H Pora also said that the road from D.H Pora to Nandimarg is similarly neglected, with no improvements made for over a year now.
“We along with civil society held a silent protest to urge the authorities to address these issues,” he added.
Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) PMGSY, Er Malik Bilal said that the road was last macadamized in 2021 but has since developed potholes.
“We had completed the tendering process, and work on the road is scheduled to begin next week,” he said.
