Kulgam, June 27: CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Tuesday demanded the immediate release of salaries for the “hardworking” casual labourers across various departments.
Tarigami in a statement issued here expressed his deep concern over the “delay” in releasing the wages of casual, seasonal, need-based labourers, daily wagers of PHE, agriculture, sericulture, tourism and other departments.
” As we approach the joyous occasion of Eid-ul-Adha, it is disheartening to witness the relentless exploitation of these hardworking individuals who, despite shouldering tremendous responsibilities, are denied their rightful wages,” Tarigami said, adding that the “indifference” shown by the authorities towards the plight of these labourers is “both deeply disappointing and morally reprehensible”.
“It is an affront to humanity itself when the sweat and labour of individuals go uncompensated, leaving them and their families in a state of despair and uncertainty,” he added.
The CPI(M) leader further said, “The casual labourers who form the backbone of our workforce, deserve respect, dignity, and the basic necessities of life. They are integral to the functioning of various departments, working tirelessly to ensure our agricultural fields flourish, our tourist destinations thrive, and essential services are maintained. It is an absolute travesty that their immense contributions go unacknowledged and uncompensated.”
“The weaker and poorer sections of our society have been grievously overlooked by the government, dealing a severe blow to their means of livelihood,” he said, adding that the impending festival of Eid-ul-Adha should be a time of joy and celebration for all, but it is marred by the struggles faced by these individuals and their families.
“It is incumbent upon the authorities to rectify this grave injustice and ensure that the fruits of their labour are not denied to them any longer,” he said and urged the administration to take immediate action and ensure the timely payment of their dues before the joyous occasion of Eid.
