Srinagar, May 11: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, Vidhi Kumar Birdi, Saturday said that they have implemented all the necessary security arrangements ahead of Srinagar Parliamentary constituency elections scheduled for May 13.
Speaking exclusively to Rising Kashmir, the IGP said they have already completed all security measures for the smooth conduct of the LokSabha election for the Srinagar Parliamentary constituency. He highlighted the deployment of paramilitary forces, checkpoints (Naka), as well as Special Security District (SSD) and Field Security District (FSD) personnel.
Responding to a question regarding the lack of enthusiasm observed before the 2019 elections, he declined to comment beyond the scope of security. He highlighted that they would ensure that the security measures mandated by the Election Commission of India (ECI) are implemented to facilitate a smooth electoral process, encouraging high voter turnout.
When asked about vulnerable spots, the IGP mentioned that the election body is monitoring them closely, refraining from making comments. He assured that arrangements have been made in areas where there are concerns or apprehensions.
Pertinent to mention that staggering 17.4 lakh voters are registered in Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency which will go for polls on May 13.
