Pulwama, June 10: Authorities in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have put an employee of the Rural Development Department (RDD) under suspension after receiving “serious allegations of corruption” against him.
The officials told Rising Kashmir that a Multi-Purpose Worker (MPW) was suspended after the department received multiple complaints of corruption against him.
According to an order, the office of the Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Pulwama, received a written complaint from Mohammad Maqbool Bhat, a resident of Gangoo village, alleging that Nazir Ahmad Ganaie (MPW Block Pulwama Panchayat Secretary halqa Gangoo) demanded and accepted bribe of Rs 4000 from him for sanctioning PMAY (Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojna) and IHHL (Individual Household Latrine) unit.
The order states that another written complaint was received from Nazir Ahmad Mir of Gangoo who also alleged that the same Panchayat Secretary demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 2000 from him on account of sanctioning PMAY and IHHL unit. The sarpanch of the halqa also testified to the statements of the above-mentioned two persons verbally in the office of ACD Pulwama, according to the order.
“The allegations levelled against the Panchayat Secretary are of serious nature and taking cognizance of the matter and pending enquiry, Nazir Ahmad Ganie (MPW Block Pulwama Panchayat Secretary halqa Gangoo), is hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect,” the order states, adding that the employee is relieved from the office of the Block Development Officer Pulwama and is directed to report in the Directorate of Rural Development Kashmir.
ACD Pulwama Dr Peerzada Farhat Ahmad told Rising Kashmir an enquiry has been constituted to probe the allegations. “The enquiry committee has been instructed to submit its report by Wednesday,” he said.
