Jammu, Jan 31: A one-day training-cum-awareness program on ‘Cultivation of Important Himalayan Medicinal and Aromatic Plants’ was organised by RCFC NR-II of SKUAST-Kashmir at Bhaderwah in District Doda on Tuesday which was attended by more than 70 farmers including various officers from Forest Divison, Bhaderwah.
Regional Director RCFC NR-II, Prof. Sheikh Bilal Ahmed deliberated on the adoption of good agricultural and collection practices of important Himalayan medicinal plants. He emphasized on primary processing, packaging and value addition of various important Himalayan medicinal plants. “Medicinal plants provide a great opportunity for livelihood security options through the cultivation of medicinal plants having high edibility rating, production of quality planting material and utilization of medicinal plants as an alternate source of food to ensure both food and nutritional security,” he said.
Dr Rozy Rasool and Er Falak, Technical officer RCFC NR-II briefed the farmers about agro-techniques for the cultivation of medicinal plants particularly kuth, pushkarmool, hyssop, etc. and the use of various marketing channels like e-Charak. Liyaqat Ayoub, Audil Gull with other scientists briefed about the importance and conservation of important medicinal plants. Technical literature on GAPs, agro techniques, processing and marketing of medicinal plants was distributed among the farmers.
