Srinagar, July 24: Rashtriya Raksha University, an Institution of National Importance under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, announced several landmark initiatives during a high-profile media interaction on Wednesday. A statement issued here said that the briefing was led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Bimal N. Patel and attended by key university officials including Yash Sharma (Director, SPES), Dr. Utsav Chaware (Director, BCORE), and Lt. (Dr.) Gaurav Singh Kushwah (Director, School of NCC and Police Martial Music Band), along with the Pro-VC and Registrar. RRU announced that India has successfully secured the bid to host the World Police & Fire Games (WPFG) 2029, with the university playing a central role in the organizing team. RRU will host 8 out of 63 sporting events on its campus, showcasing its international-level infrastructure and event management capacity. The university will also build a cadre of 500 trained volunteers and establish a dedicated Secretariat-cum-Organizing Committee to manage the Games. In addition, RRU plans to release a detailed catalogue documenting key insights from the 2025 WPFG held in Birmingham, USA, to guide preparations for 2029. In a first-of-its-kind initiative, RRU announced the creation of the School of NCC and Police Martial Music Band, India’s only dedicated academic centre for ceremonial and martial music. This effort is aligned with the Second Panch Pran of Viksit Bharat, focusing on eliminating colonial legacies and reviving India’s rich cultural traditions. The initiative aims to professionalize and dignify the role of band musicians in India’s security forces. Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on cultural identity, RRU reiterated his words: “Indian music will become the identity of the world.” RRU’s Bharat Centre of Olympic Research and Education (BCORE) has launched India’s first Olympic Research Grants Programme to support Master’s and PhD students across India and South Asia. The programme is backed by a Rs 75 lakh corpus, supported by Gujarat State Cooperative Bank and Ahmedabad Cooperative Bank, under the guidance of Shri Ajay Patel, Senior Vice President of the Indian Olympic Association. RRU also announced a potential partnership with Germany’s TSG Hoffenheim to set up a high-performance lab for India’s security and sports sectors. This facility will include advanced technologies like psychological profiling, Helix 360 Arena simulations, and performance tracking systems. BCORE will also host the 2nd International Olympic Research Conference from January 27–30, 2026, bringing together international researchers and institutions in Olympic studies.
