Pulwama, July 06 : A young lady was operated at Subdistrict Hospital( SDH) Pampore in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district for rare medical condition, Axillary Fibroadenoma, of which only 40 cases have been reported in the world.Fibroadenoma are solid lumps which may occur in breast or accessory breast tissue.The Fibroadenoma of breasts in females are common. However, its incidence in accessory breast tissue is very rare.
Dr Nawab Khan, Consultant Surgery at Subdistrict Hospital Pampore, informed that Fibroadenoma of accessory breast tissue is a very rare entity.
“Only 40 cases have been reported in world literature so far,” he said.
The doctor narrated that a young lady reported to the hospital with a swelling in left Axilla for which she was examined.
He added that after examination it appeared that this is a case of lymphoma. He continued that a FNAC ( Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology ) report confirmed it as axillary Fibroadenoma for which the patient was operated by a team of doctors including Dr Nawab, Dr Younis, Dr Tajamul and Dr Hamid.
Dr Nawab elaborated that there is a tissue outside the breasts in both males and females which is called accessory breast tissue or milk line.
He advised that a person who notices swellings in the accessory breast tissue should consult a doctor for their management.
The doctor further said that the swelling can become infections, develop into cysts or turn malignant.
He explained that breast problems do occur outside the breast and swellings in accessory breast tissue shouldn’t be taken for granted but a timely examination will help in their management.
“The operated patient is recuperating and doing well,” doctors at SDH Pampore said.
