Srinagar, June 4: A delegation from Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), a Navratna Public Sector Undertaking under the Union Ministry of Defence, on Thursday made a detailed presentation before Forest Minister Javed Ahmed Rana on “INFRASURE”, an Artificial Intelligence-based forest fire detection, firefighting and forest management system.

The presentation focused on the use of advanced technologies to strengthen forest protection, wildlife surveillance, disaster management and environmental conservation. According to the MDL team, the proposed platform integrates ground-based, aerial and satellite technologies with a centralised command-and-control mechanism to improve preparedness and response capabilities.

Officials said the AI-enabled system is designed for early detection of forest fires, real-time monitoring, forest surveillance and disaster management. The platform also includes components such as aerial firefighting systems, satellite-based forest management tools and man-animal conflict detection and alarm mechanisms.

The delegation informed the minister that the technology would help improve response times, enhance forest surveillance and support effective decision-making through real-time data and monitoring.

Rana appreciated the presentation and underscored the importance of adopting innovative and technology-driven solutions for sustainable management and protection of forest resources.

He observed that advanced monitoring and early warning systems could play a crucial role in reducing forest fire incidents, minimising ecological damage and strengthening environmental conservation efforts.

The minister directed the MDL team to submit a comprehensive proposal tailored to the geographical conditions and specific requirements of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly addressing challenges related to forest fire management, wildlife protection and disaster response.

He said the government would undertake a detailed assessment of the proposal and examine its feasibility and potential benefits for enhancing forest protection and environmental conservation across the Union Territory.

Senior officers of the Forest Department were also present during the presentation.
