R-Day: Javed Rana highlights dev in Poonch

Poonch, Jan 26: Minister Javed Ahmed Rana marked Republic Day at Sports Stadium Poonch by unfurling the national flag, leading a march past of 28 contingents including police, paramilitary, NCC, and students. The event also featured a cultural program celebrating regional traditions and talent. Rana congratulated the people of Poonch, emphasizing the importance of the Constitution and recalling the sacrifices of freedom fighters. He paid particular tribute to the resilience of the region, especially recalling the bravery shown during Operation Sindoor. He highlighted recent development initiatives, including accelerated work on Jammu–Poonch National Highway, the upcoming Kundi and Nowshera tunnels, and major infrastructure projects like power plants, water schemes, and roads. He detailed ongoing projects worth over ₹67 crore, supporting water supply, electricity, health, and road connectivity, along with housing under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Rana also praised the district’s progress in agriculture, with special mention of high-value crops and the GI tagging of local crafts like Pashmina. He underscored the government’s focus on improving livelihood through schemes like SASCI, NABARD, and Jal Jeevan Mission, which aim to provide drinking water, bridges, and rural infrastructure. He announced efforts to promote education, sports, and youth empowerment, including the development of sports facilities and the upcoming Hiranagar Cricket Stadium. Addressing the ongoing fight against drugs, Rana stressed the importance of societal participation and strict law enforcement to protect youth. He called on citizens to support the government’s efforts in drug eradication and youth development. The event concluded with prize distribution and cultural performances, with officials and community members reaffirming their commitment to progress and unity. The celebration reflected Poonch’s resilience and aspirations for a brighter future.
