Bandipora, 05 Jan: A punt firearm and illicit items were apprehended in the Saderkoot area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district during an inspection conducted by the Forest Protection Force (FPF) on Thursday.
Deputy Director Aihzaz Ahmad of the Forest Protection Force said that upon being informed of the use of punt guns at Wular to kill the particular bird species, an anti-poaching team headed by Deputy inspector was designated to carry out the search.
He stated that during the operation, a 09-feet long punt gun and live cartridges 450g, 150g, 50g black powder, D Coy 20 were confiscated from the site.
He said that a punt gun is a sort of very huge shotgun employed in marshlands to shoot a large number of waterfowl for commercial hunting.
He mentioned that Forest security personnel have augmented their monitoring activities in and near Wular Lake to stop unlawful hunting and offer a shield to feathered inhabitants of the Wular Lake.
