Pulwama ,April 28:  Police on Tuesday uncovered an alleged illegal LPG decanting operation in the Kakapora area following specific inputs, officials said.

According to police, a local distributor was found transferring liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from domestic cylinders into commercial ones, allegedly to gain undue profit. Such practices violate safety regulations and pose serious risks due to the hazardous nature of LPG handling.

Police registered FIR No. 34/26 at Police Station Kakapora against Firdous Ahmad Dar, a resident of Hajibal. During the raid, officials recovered 80 cylinders, including 35 domestic and 45 commercial units, which were reportedly being used in the operation.

Officials said illegal decanting not only breaches laws governing LPG distribution but also endangers public safety if proper precautions are not followed.

Senior Superintendent of Police Pulwama, Tanushree, confirmed the action and said an investigation is underway. “Further facts will emerge as the probe progresses,” she stated.

Police added that efforts are ongoing to identify others who may be involved in the case.
