SRINAGAR, SEPT 01: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha graced the 25th anniversary celebration of the Harishchandra Tyagi Public Library in Ghaziabad today, underscoring the library’s pivotal role in promoting education and intellectual enlightenment within the local community, particularly among the youth.
In his address, the Lt Governor extended his heartfelt congratulations to all those affiliated with the Harishchandra Tyagi Public Library. He emphasized the enduring significance of public libraries in an era marked by the rapid advancement of digital technology and Artificial Intelligence.
“The enduring relevance of public libraries in the digital age lies in their role as repositories of knowledge, research, fresh ideas, and diverse perspectives. They serve as hubs for community engagement, fostering inclusivity,” stated the Lt Governor.
During the event, the Lt Governor also shed light on the Jammu and Kashmir Administration’s dedicated efforts to enhance access to libraries for the people of the Union Territory. Notable achievements include the establishment of libraries in districts such as Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian, and various small towns, with these libraries evolving into e-learning and counselling centres. As of today, a staggering 3.5 crore e-books are accessible to the youth through these centres.
Highlighting the transformational initiatives in Jammu and Kashmir, the Lt Governor revealed that Aragam village in Bandipora has been transformed into the country’s first-ever book village. Additionally, a cultural centre featuring a museum and library was recently inaugurated, benefiting the Dard-Shin tribal community residing along the Line of Control in Gurez.
The Lt Governor also underscored the importance of digitizing rare manuscripts, a move that connects the younger generation with the rich historical and cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir and the nation as a whole.
As part of the celebration, the Lt Governor inaugurated a Book Bank within the Harishchandra Tyagi Public Library, which will provide students with free access to a diverse array of subjects throughout the academic session. Furthermore, a commemorative souvenir, chronicling the library’s remarkable 25-year journey, was unveiled.
Prominent dignitaries present at the event included Dr. Anil Agrawal, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha; Sunita Dayal, Mayor of Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation; Dr. Dinesh Arora, Chairman of Yashoda Super Speciality Hospitals; and Baleshwar Tyagi, Custodian of the Harishchandra Tyagi Public Library. This momentous occasion celebrated the library’s invaluable contributions and its enduring impact on the community, particularly in the context of Jammu and Kashmir’s progress.
