Jammu, April 16: The Police Technical Training Institute (PTTI), Vijaypur, Wednesday organised a lecture on cyber crime awareness for police personnel and trainees, highlighting the growing menace of cyber frauds perpetrated through mobile calls and SMS.
A three-member team from the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India, led by Rahul Kumar Sachan, Deputy Director General (Security), J&K LSA, was invited to deliver the session. The team provided a detailed overview of various types of cyber scams and emphasised the importance of refraining from sharing sensitive information such as OTPs, bank details, and passwords over mobile devices.
They also introduced the Sanchar Saathi App, recently launched by the Ministry of Communications, which empowers users to report fraudulent activity, block lost or stolen mobile handsets, and manage mobile connections. Available as both a mobile application and a web portal, the app aims to bolster the government’s efforts in curbing digital fraud. Speaking on the occasion, Dushyant Sharma, SSP and Principal of PTTI Vijaypur, stressed the significance of such awareness programmes. He urged participants to leverage the Sanchar Saathi app not only during investigations but also to educate the wider public on preventing cyber crimes. The event was also attended by Raj Kumar (SrPO), Shri Khushwant Singh (DySP, Administration), Inspector Anil Kumar (CDI), Inspector Ram Lal (CLI), Inspector Himanshu Dutta (CTI) and other officers and trainees of the institute.
